To Make an Appointment to see your Doctor

An appointment can be made in person at the surgery or by telephoning the surgery number 956 1339 (4 lines). You may be held in a queue but this is unavoidable. To help this situation only calls for appointments required that day will be dealt with between 8.30am and 10am. Although you are officially registered with a particular doctor you can request a consultation with any of the doctors in the practice. Although it may not be possible in an emergency, if a house visit is required or if you need to be seen that day, every effort will be made for you to see a doctor of your choice. If you think the consultation is likely to be lengthy, for example if it involves several problems, please book a 'double appointment' (15 minutes instead of 7.5)

Emergencies

These take priority at all times. Please telephone : 956 4334

Other Services

Doctors are often asked by patients to complete reports and certificates for various reasons, which may or may not require physical examination. If a physical examination is required, this can often take at least thirty minutes, so special time has to be set aside. Most of these private examinations and reports carry a fee recommended by the British Medical Association, details of which can be obtained at reception.

Shared Antenatal and Postnatal Care

All of the doctors are pleased to provide care shared with the hospital. We have regular antenatal clinics at the surgery, or if the times are unsuitable your doctor may suggest a 'double appointment' in their normal surgery. When you inform us of your delivery we will visit you at home and, in addition, carry out a postnatal check about six weeks after delivery at the surgery. Your baby will also be thoroughly examined at six weeks at the Child Health Surveillance clinic at the surgery.

Contaceptive Services

All of the doctors offer contraceptive advice and prescriptions for contraception in a normal surgery and no special appointment is required.

Cervical Smears

These can be booked in three ways:

1. During a normal surgery appointment with the doctor of your choice(please inform the reception staff that you are booking a smear)

2. At the cervical smear clinic where one of our practice nurses or female doctor will take your smear

3 At the Well Woman Clinic.

Vaccinations

These are usually carried out by the practice nurses, who should be consulted about travel vaccinations, anti-tetanus and childhood vacccinations.

Tetanus Boosters are recommended every ten years. Stocks are held in the surgery. If you require a tetanus booster, please make an appointment with the nurse.

Influenza vaccines

Yearly Vaccines are recommended for many people at the start of winter. Eligible individuals will be notified by letter around the beginning of October each year (i.e those over 65 or with a recognised risk factor), and Clinics will be held in October and November. The opportunity to have a Flu Vaccination is open to everyone however so if you do not recieve a letter but wish to be vaccinated contact reception to make an appointment at one of the Flu Vaccination Clinics. Dates for these Clinics are displayed in the surgery.
